Abbott Laboratories' Architect is a modular diagnostic system. The system combines traditionally separate technologies of clinical chemistry and immunoassay into one seamless system. The modules can be assembled to create a system that meets the laboratories needs. An essential marketing requirement was to blend the two technologies and create a system that appeared as one to the operator. The task was to combine the appearance design, software interface, and the physical interactions into an easy to use system. Intuition managed the effort of combining all of the operator interactions into one manageable system. Combining the appearance design, software interface and physical interactions to create a system of products that are easy to use. We managed the design effort working with Lunar Design, IDEO, and other design firms to blend the aesthetics, and the functionality of the product. Intuition provided design management services, concept development, market research and ease of use evaluations for the project.
